THE RIVERBED STEELHEAD LINE OF APPLIANCES

Steelhead appliances and Steelhead Mobile software enable wide-area data services (WDS) for enterprises of all sizes. These products make it easy for organizations to accelerate the applications that are most important to their users, anywhere in the world. Steelhead appliances are available in a range of sizes to meet the needs of any remote office - from small sales offices with just a few people, to major design centers and corporate facilities with thousands of employees. Steelhead Mobile software enables workers on the move to enjoy LAN-like access to files and applications whether they are working from home, on the road, or even at customer sites.

SMALL OFFICE MODELS

With Riverbed's smaller models, you can now provide even your smallest remote offices with the application acceleration benefits that every office deserves.

These Steelhead appliances cost-effectively accelerate offices with just a handful of people. The smallest Steelhead 250-H supports up to about 25 people.

A little larger than a DSL modem

These appliances are designed with a small, quiet form factor so that they can run on a desk and also come with rack mountable ears as well for a dedicated server rack or data center. They contain all the key optimization technologies within RiOS, thereby providing significant bandwidth reduction and application acceleration simultaneously.

MID-SIZE OFFICE MODELS

For mid-size offices and regional data centers, Riverbed offers a powerful mid-range line of appliances. These models support an estimated 75 to 850 employees (depending on the device and usage characteristics), and scale up to 45 Mbps of WAN capacity. The mid-range Steelhead appliances also offer features that most competitors only offer in their high-end devices such as RAID and redundant power supplies.

With a convenient 1U server format, these models can easily be rack-mounted or kept in a server closet. Four (4) on-board copper Gigabit ethernet ports come standard in the 50 Series mid-range appliances with optional multi-port Ethernet and fiber cards available.

LARGE OFFICE / DATA CENTER MODELS

For your largest offices, corporate headquarters, or your data centers, the Steelhead Larger models provide even greater capacity, plus the redundancy required in a mission-critical technology.

Optional multi-port Ethernet cards enable integration into multi-link or redundant WAN configurations. Clustering with the Interceptor appliance provides additional failover or scaling in extremely large deployments, ensuring that Steelhead appliances can always scale up to meet your application acceleration needs.

These devices contain RAID, triple power supplies, and hot-swappable disk to ensure maximum uptime and rock-solid hardware reliability.

STEELHEAD APPLIANCE MANAGEMENT

Steelhead appliances are designed for easy remote management.

Steelhead Appliance Management and Reporting

Steelhead appliances include a robust enterprise-class management infrastructure that simplifies configuration, enables control from around the world, and provides full visibility into the health and performance of your Steelhead appliances. In addition to the management console available on every Steelhead appliance, enterprises can take advantage of the optional Central Management Console (CMC) to enable centralized management of many Steelhead appliances at once.

STEELHEAD MOBILE 2.0

With Steelhead Mobile enterprises can give mobile workers LAN-like access to corporate files and applications no matter where they are, anywhere in the world. With a simple software package installed transparently on their laptops or desktops, all of the powerful benefits of RiOS are available to the end-user.

Steelhead Mobile works by interacting directly with any Steelhead appliance to optimize applications the same way in which two Steelhead devices would work together. At least one Steelhead Mobile Controller (SMC) is required to manage Steelhead Mobile licensing.

For end-users, applications and collaboration work exactly the same - simply much faster. No changes are required to applications or the normal processes that workers are used to. IT managers do not need to make any changes to routers, VPN infrastructure, SSL/HTTPS servers, or any of the other key technology in their enterprise. In fact, IT managers can control whether or not end-users see anything at all (like the Steelhead Mobile system tray icon), or if they want Steelhead Mobile to be completely invisible to the end-users.

Software is pushed out to end-user machines via MSI packages. Using the Steelhead Mobile Controller (SMC), IT administrators control the installation process as well as the configuration policies that determine what optimizations take place per user or groups of users.

With Steelhead Mobile, mobile workers can be more productive than they ever imagined would be possible.
